Teen arrested in shooting
While on patrol in the Windy Hill section of North Myrtle Beach on 37th Avenue South, two North Myrtle Beach Police officers were flagged down by a group with Aaron K. Chestnut, 33, of Spring Street in Loris (victim), who had been shot. The officers began to render aid and called for assistance for the victim, who was unresponsive. Officers controlled and secured the scene while the victim was treated by North Myrtle Beach Fire/Rescue and Horry County Fire/Rescue. The victim was transported via EMS to Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach where he later died according to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center staff in Myrtle Beach from apparent gunshot wounds.|
North Myrtle Beach Police officers made contact with a person who is an acquaintance of all involved and a witness to the incident. The witness stated they observed Keith Richard Curry, 19, of Old Star Bluff Road in Longs (suspect) shoot the victim for an unknown reason while the victim was partially inside the suspectís vehicle. The witness said the suspect was driving a dark blue Chrysler sedan.
Information was gathered on the suspectís vehicle and distributed to North Myrtle Beach Police officers. The suspect was located and arrested in the area of Harbourgate Marina on Little River Neck Road.
During a post-miranda interview at the station, the suspect confessed to police that he shot the victim and drove over the victimís body as he fled the scene in his vehicle. The suspect also assisted North Myrtle Beach Detectives in retrieving the weapon used in the shooting from the Creekside Mobile Home Park.
The shooting was not connected to the Atlantic Beach bikefest but was drug-related incident.
