Cathy Altman has been appointed as the new Director of the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum on 2nd Avenue North.
Altman began work on Monday, and looks forward to her new position. “I am so excited to be the new director of the museum. Being around relics, artifacts and antiques all the time, I feel like I fit right in. Seriously though, I look forward to this wonderful opportunity to embrace our history and culture, and happy to be a part of it,” Altman said.
“While I have tons of ideas, I want to reach out to our community for their input, their assistance and help in deciding on what exhibits we can bring to the museum. I am always open to ideas from the community,” Altman added.
Altman has been a part of the museum since the very beginning. “I was part of the formation committee for the museum, before it became a reality. Now I am so proud to be a part of the operation of the museum, and help to make all those dreams come true. I remember how excited and energetic the founders of this museum were, and I feel wonderful being able to actually continue that dream,” Altman said.
Altman also wanted to remind everyone of the museum’s meeting space. “We have room for meetings and events, and I want the community to reach out to us to see if we can make space available to them.”
Cathy Altman has worked in the North Myrtle Beach/Myrtle Beach area for many years, working in the non-profit arena for area chambers, with event management experience. Most recently Altman was over marketing, development and fundraising at the Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center in Myrtle Beach.
As far as the reopening date for the museum, Dick Hester, Chairman Emeritus of the museum, stated that there still is no firm date for the opening. “Repairs have been completed from Hurricane Matthew, and we are trying to move exhibits back in. I still hope that we can open before the end of July. Certainly getting Cathy Altman as our new director will help us going forward. I know she wants to do a lot, and I look forward to her energy and working to make our museum a great success,” Hester said.
