Little River native sworn in as Horry County Judge

Horry County Judge Angela Gause Brown was sworn in on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Angela Gause Brown is a native of Horry County, S.C..  She was born in Little River and graduated in 1992 from North Myrtle Beach High School. She continued her education at Charleston Southern University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 1996. Angela received certifications from the Children’s Development Association in 2000 and 2024 in Pastoral Counseling with Be Your Miracle Center, Inc.

As of July 1, 2025, she became the second black female Judge for the Summary Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit.

Angela was employed with the Horry County Sheriff’s Department for the last 27 years as the Director of Victim Services at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Also, on October 7, 2024, she became the Municipal Judge for the Town of Atlantic Beach.

Angela has served on the Advisory Board(s) for Criminal Justice, Paralegal and IT Support Programs at Miller-Motte Technical College. She currently serves on the SC 90 and Highway 57 case study council for Horry County, South Carolina, and the Attorney General’s Office Coastal Regional Task Force Board for Human Trafficking. Angela also serves as the President on the Board of Directors for Engaging Mind Services Resource Center. Prior to becoming a judge, she was very dedicated to working with all different organizations such as Stop the Violence, Anti-Bullying, Ebony’s Hope, Gun Violence groups, Rape Crisis, Horry County Schools along with all local and federal law enforcement to better serve the citizens of Horry County.

As a result of her commitment and accomplishments, she received the Humanitarian Award from Masonic Lodge #333 in July 2019.  She is also a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
