The NMB boys soccer team had a 7-0 record last week entering matchups with Carolina Forest and St. James at home.
The Chiefs got off to a great start against Carolina Forest last Tuesday with a 2-0 victory. The Chiefs scored twice in the first half and then held on for their win over the Panthers.
Aiden Trevino and John Rodriguez scored the goals for the Chiefs and Cristhian Vasquez and Jose Carpio were credited with an assist. Tomas Arroyo had 13 saves in goal for the Chiefs.
Last Friday the Chiefs gave up an early goal to the St. James Sharks and then couldn’t find the back of the net themselves in a 1-0 loss. The Chiefs record fell to 8-1 and despite the loss Chiefs coach Zachariah Brittain praised his team’s performance this year.
“Our team has been working the hardest I’ve ever seen a high school team work. Our match against St. James was by far the worst performance yet and we know we are better than we showed.”
“The best part of this team is its commitment both to the game and to each other. They play together whether it’s a bad day or a good day, they stand together. Now it’s on to the next game and we’re prepared to play Myrtle Beach at Doug Shaw Stadium,” Brittain said.
The Chiefs match at Myrtle Beach is also their last match until a scheduled April 7 match with Gaffney at The Hank. Region play resumes with a match against Socastee on Tuesday, April 14.
