Citizen’s Academy now taking applications

North Myrtle Beach residents may now apply for the free 2026 North Myrtle Beach Citizen’s Academy. The Citizen’s Academy exposes participants to all facets of North Myrtle Beach government and includes tours of key city facilities.

The first meeting is Thursday, March 5, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at City Hall at 1018 Second Avenue South. The deadline for submitting applications is Wednesday, February 25, at 5 p.m. The city is only accepting 30 applicants. Due to limited space, if you have previously attended the Citizen’s Academy, you will only be allowed to attend if spaces are available.

Participants are required to complete an application and sign a Hold Harmless Agreement in order to attend the Citizen’s Academy.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

On Thursday, March 5, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will focus on city manager with an overview of major projects and current issues facing the city. Additional focus on information services, human resources and public information.

On Thursday, March 12, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. you will focus on Public Works Department including water, wastewater, streets, stormwater, sanitation and support services. You will complete a  tour of pump station and water tank facilities at Little River Neck Road and tour of water tank facility at Main Street.

On Thursday, March 19, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will continue focus on Public Works Department with a tour of the solid waste transfer station and wastewater treatment plant.

On Thursday, March 26, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will focus on the Parks and Recreation Department including athletics, sports tourism, grounds maintenance, programs, events, the Aquatic and Fitness Center, Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful, Adopt a Beach Access, the Community Garden and Beach Services. You will also tour the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

On Thursday April 2, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will continue focus on Parks and Recreation wih a tour of the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

On Thursday, April 9, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will focus on Planning and Development with Zoning, Finance Department and City Clerk.

On Thursday, April 16, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., you will focus on Police and Fire Departments as well as tour the public safety facilities.

On Thursday, April 20, at 6 p.m., the North Myrtle Beach Citizen’s Academy Graduation Ceremony will be held during the City Council meeting.
