The ladies of the Yaupon Garden Club were recently reminded of the sage advice to live in the present by Chaplain Lynne Payne who delivered the meditation at their Tuesday, May 5, meeting. The members truly enjoyed living in the present at their luau-themed meeting, thanks to décor provided by hostess Belinda Roy along with hostesses Kathy Jenkins, Sue Hagen, Pam Maness and Lynne Payne. President Phillis Newman welcomed visitors Honey Chiocco, Kay Schwaiger and Jennifer Grue. She also requested the members to pray for Susan Platt who recently lost her father and for Mary Templeton who is on the road to recovery.
Members were proud to see the results of their efforts in the display of eight certificates, all either first or second place, awarded from both the Garden Club of South Carolina and Southern Atlantic Region (SAR).
It was announced by Belinda Roy that the last meeting of the Ecotots took place on Friday, May 8, at the Ocean Drive Elementary School.
Bette Hurt reported that the blue bird houses erected at the Sports Complex have been cleaned and that plans are underway to place an additional house in the city.
A highlight of the meeting was an auction of heritage plants brought in by the members. Stories were shared about the plants’ origin.
Dorothy Bambach gave a report regarding the activities being planned for National Garden Week, June 7-12, 2026. She highlighted a presentation on Blue Birds to be delivered by expert Dr. David Staunwhite from the SC Bluebird Society. It will be held at the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum on Wednesday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend at no charge.
President Phillis announced that a Board planning meeting will take place on Monday, June 1, 2026, to set the agenda for the next Yaupon Garden Club year. The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m. following a Happy Birthday extended to Phillis Newman, Phyllis Green, Jeanne Hendrix, Deb Madey, Belinda Roy, Tina Sclafani, Susan Platt and Bette Hurt.
