Lions Club announces ice cream eye screening

The Loris Lions Club has planned a Free Eye Screen for Ice Cream event for children aged 3 to 18 on Tuesday, August 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. This will take place at the State Theater located at 4149 Main Street in Loris. There is no charge for the screening test. Results will be provided to the parents/guardians of the children to take to an eye doctor.

Every child who undergoes screening will be given a complimentary scoop of ice cream from The Scoop at Ritchie’s General Store and Eatery, along with gift bags containing gift certificates and products from local businesses such as Mattie Jane’s Coffee, Bola and More, Poppie’s Downtown Sweet Bar, Apparel & More, Citi Trends, Wild Skye’s Creative Studio, Loris Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Santino’s Pizza, Loris Drug Store, Wendy’s, Shogun of Loris, Advance America and First Palmetto Bank.

Horry County School District Superintendent Clifford Jones will be present to observe the screening process. At 6:30 p.m., Shogun of Loris will conduct a karate exhibition.

The Lions Club welcomes gently used eyeglasses and frames to assist children in foreign countries in improving their vision. You can find drop boxes for glasses at the Loris Chamber of Commerce, Loris Eye Associates, Dr. Tracy Ray, Dr. Michael Mills’ Loris Eye Care, Black’s Tire on Hwy. 701 N. and The Barber Shop located in downtown Loris.

The Loris Lions Club gathers at Mattie Jane’s on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join the meetings. Individuals who wish to become members of the Lions Club can fill out an application for processing. “We invite you to visit us to discover more about upcoming projects that will benefit our community,” stated Keen. The club requires 20 members to apply for a charter. “The greater our membership, the more we can accomplish in the community,” remarked Sandy Boggs.
