Local students place first in free throw contest

Four students recently earned first place in the Knights of Columbus District Basketball Free Throw Contest. They will be heading to the state level of competition on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, S.C. First place winners are Emma Ferguson, Marley Rhodes, Joel Haynes and Charles Iamero.

The Knights of Columbus, Council 7122, from Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church recently hosted the Knight of Columbus District Basketball Free Throw Contest.

The contest was held at the North Myrtle Beach Middle School on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

The local winners of the council contest were very successful capturing three of the four places awarded in the district. The results are as follows:

The first place winners for the girls, were Emma Ferguson for age group 9-11 and Marley Rhodes for age group 12-14. The first place winners for the boys were Joel Haynes for age group 9-11 and Charles Iamero for age group 12-14.

Under the guidance of Chairmen Renzo Munno and District Warden Frank Burke, congratulations were extended to these student athletes for their outstanding achievements.

Renzo Munno thanked all the participants, parents and volunteers for the event. A special thanks goes to Josh Knab of North Myrtle Beach Middle School.

The excitement continues as the state level of competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, S.C.

This event promises to be a thrilling spectacle, attracting participants and spectators alike to witness the talent and competetive spirit that characterize the Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw Contest.
