The members of Loris Garden Club were welcomed by hostesses Janice Long and Ruth Ann Jones to The Mishoe-Stoudenmire Building to begin the LGC 2025-2026 year.

The Loris Garden Club sponsors ongoing civic projects that help protect the environment and preserve the natural beauty of our lovely town.

Carl Claytor and Pat Adkins were thanked for their work in completing the Club Yearbook and delivering them to members prior to the meeting. This year’s book features pictures of members along with their information.

President Dr. Gloria Kinney was warmly welcomed back after being absent much of last year due to severe injuries in an automobile accident. She presented and provided information on Loris Garden Club’s goals for this year, which include updating the Thelma Suggs Memorial Butterfly Garden which was dedicated in May and since sustained some damage due to maintenance work in that area of the city. Plans are also being made for the restoration of the Blue Star By-Way Marker which was the first one in South Carolina, and redesigning The Althea Heniford Memorial Mini Park located at Highway 9 East Business with replacement of the Carolina Fence and new landscaping.

LGC also adopted and maintains a section of the Loris Nature Park which has native South Carolina plants, bird houses, Crepe Myrtles and Knockout Roses.

Vice President David Stoudenmire spoke on the value and importance of our Club’s By-Laws which are listed in the Yearbook.

David introduced the Special Program Speaker Michelene Sheeny, GCSC 3rd Vice President/Awards Chairman 2025-2027, who presented valuable information on selecting and submitting Award Applications for the District, State, SE Regional as well as National Awards  presented to clubs who file applications for their club projects. She encouraged members to submit their applications in a timely manner.

Ruth Ann Jones presented her flower  arrangement, “Getting Started”, which featured Sunflowers, African Lilies, Acuba, Tapioca leaves and variegated roses. The arrangements have been placed in the Loris Library.
