Men of Trinity United Methodist Church award scholarships

By Kenneth McIver

The Men of Trinity United Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach recently celebrated ten outstanding students by awarding each a $500 scholarship.

Each year, the Men’s Ministry offers scholarships to help students further their academic pursuits. This year’s program saw a strong pool of applicants, each presenting compelling stories of academic achievement, personal determination and community involvement. The scholarship committee, comprised of members of the Men’s Ministry Board, met to carefully review each application.

At its monthly breakfast meeting, the full group voted unanimously that all ten applicants merited recognition. Rather than narrowing the awards to just a select few, they resolved to present each applicant with a $500 scholarship. The decision reflected the church’s belief that every applicant’s hard work and aspirations were worthy of investment.

“This year’s group of students truly embodied the values we strive to promote—faith, perseverance and service,” said Jackie Stanley, Trinity United Methodist Men’s President. “We couldn’t choose just a few.”

The recipients represent a variety of educational goals and schools around the country.  They are: Hudson Seneca, University of South Carolina; Tary Stitner, Bluefield State University; Lauren Mathis, University of South Carolina; Shane Mathis, Charleston Southern University; Landon Crosy, Ohio University; Nicholas Ard, Clemson University; Brianna Zamrik, Penn State University; Elissa Zamrik, Duke University; Corinne Warehime, University of South Carolina; and Taylor Thompson, University of South Carolina.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and blessings, sending the students off with the full encouragement of their church family.

The scholarships are supported by the group’s annual Golf Tournament. Trinity United Methodist Men will host its 13th Annual Golf Tournament at Beachwood Golf Club on Saturday, November 1. Those interested in sponsoring a hole and supporting the missions of Trinity Men can call the church office at 843-272-5236.
