Guten Tag! as they say in in Germany. Barefoot Landing will continue the WonderFall celebration with its next event – Oktoberfest. On Saturday, October 4, starting at noon, people can enjoy German-inspired food and drink specials at participating restaurants with a purchased wristband ($10).

Proceeds from the wristband will support the day-to-day operations of The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. It includes caring for the homeless dogs and cats in the shelter.

“Events like Oktoberfest help us to continue our mission of saving lives and creating a more compassionate community for animals,” said Meaghan Pitman, marketing manager of the shelter.

Aqua Paradise, LLC will bring a hot tub for people to fill with donations for the humane society. The wish list includes pet food, pet toys, pooper scoopers and litter boxes. The first 100 donors will each receive a wristband.

“It’s for a great cause,” said Jim Funicella, owner of Aqua Paradise, LLC. “All the donations and all the funds that are raised go to help the shelter. It’s a lot of fun bringing the community together.”

People can help the shelter by going to the Full Moon Party at Rooftop Bar and  Lounge at Big Chill Island House from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy glowing black light decor, Octoberfest party favors and mixed dance beats spun by DJ Immer. With a wristband, food and beverage specials will include $5 Samuel Adams Octoberfest, $5 Tidal Creek Harmonic Hefeweizen, $14 Pumpkin Espresso Martinis and more. Guests with wristbands can be entered into a $100 Big Chill gift card prize drawing. Fifteen percent of sales during the event will be donated to the humane society.

Speaking of pets, canine owners will get to compete in the Every Dog is a Weiner Contest at 2:30 p.m. They can dress their fur baby in German-themed clothing or costume. There will be prizes for the top two dogs including gift cards and items from Faux Paus Dog Shop.

Oktoberfest will also benefit the Apple Breast Cancer Warrior Foundation. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., people can join barre3 Myrtle Beach for a special donation-based workout on the lawn near Dockside Village.

The Pepsi Stage will feature the Alex Church Duo from noon to 2 p.m. and Whiskey Run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

At Bully’s Pub, servers will wear dirndl dresses while serving German-inspired foods such as classic schnitzel, bratwurst dogs and pretzels with mustard. Guests can enjoy drink specials such as Samuel Adams Octoberfest and butterbeer cocktails. At 11 p.m., there will be a stein-holding competition, in which people will attempt to hold a 32-oz stein filled with beer as long as they can.

“I think it’s an awesome day that Barefoot Landing has created,” said Bully’s general manager Devon Watson. “I love Oktoberfest anyway. It’s a big festival for everybody to be outside and enjoy each other.”
