The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 13-14 All-Star team finished the SC Dixie Youth Championship Tournament in third place last week in Bluffton. The all-stars were one win away from playing in the championship when they lost to St. George 4-2. North Myrtle Beach opened tournament play with a 9-4 victory over Bluffton. They then lost to St. George by a 13-3 score in game two but came back strong to beat Chester 8-7 and Marion 7-5 in the loser’s bracket competition in the double elimination tournament. A new regulation has been established that affects the use of natural deer lures and attractants often used by deer hunters in South Carolina. The new regulation makes it unlawful in South Carolina to possess or use, for the purpose of hunting or scouting, any substance or material that contains or claims to contain any excretion collected from a deer, including urine, feces, gland oil or other body fluid. This does not prohibit the use of synthetic products or substances collected by a hunter from deer legally harvested in South Carolina. Synthetic products are clearly labeled as such. If a …

Ronald “Bubba” Whetstone, 75, of Loris passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Mr. Whetstone was born in Charlotte, N.C., a son of the late Charles C. and Eva B. Whetstone.  He was a member and Sunday School teacher at Liberty Baptist Church.  Mr. Whetstone was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a volunteer at Agape in Conway and retired from K & W Cafeteria after 25 years of service.  Mr. Whetstone loved reading his Bible.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Lynn Whetstone; three brothers, Laddie Whetstone, Charles Whetstone and Jimmy Whetstone; and one …

John R. Cunningham Jr. of Tabor City, N.C., went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 26, 2019. Mr. John was born in Altoona, Pa., a son of the late John R. Cunningham Sr. and the late Grace Cunningham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He worked with Ward Trucking Corporation for 29 years as a supervisor and retired as a maintenance supervisor with DTH Management. Joanna Kenney Causey, 52, of Conway passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019, at her home following a sudden illness. Born on Feb. 27, 1967, in Front Royal, Va., she was the daughter of Mary Jenkins Kenney of Conway and the late Carroll Willington Kenney. Jerry Wayne Cox of Longs was born to Fannie Virginia Prince and Dayton Paul Cox of Longs on Feb. 8, 1954. He passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, after a short illness at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Jerry attended Loris High School, graduating in 1972. He then attended Francis Marion University, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1976. Edwin Benjamin Boyd, 56, of Loris passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born on Feb. 1, 1963, in Loris to the late Cecil Earl Boyd and the late Carol June Strickland Boyd.
