Robert “Bobby”  Herbst III,  37, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. He was born on July 9, 1981, in Stratford, N.J., the son of the Robert F. Herbst Jr. and Georgieann J. Sliwowski Herbst. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, stock car racing and football. He also loved to cook. Mr. Herbst was predeceased by a step-brother, Kenny Landis, and a step-sister, GiGi Masso, and his grandfather, Robert F. Herbst, and step-grandfather, Sam Graifer. Homer H. “Buddy” Harrelson Jr., 79, of Highway 9 Business West in Loris died on Friday, June 7, 2019, at his residence following an illness. Mr. Harrelson was born in Loris, a son of the late Homer Hamilton Harrelson Sr. and Maude Justine Williams Harrelson. He was the owner and operator of Buddy’s Kwik Stop in Loris. Mr. Harrelson was a member of Loris First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Amanda “Diddle” Waynette Fowler Tyler, 37, of Loris passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born on Sept. 2, 1981, she was the daughter of Wayne Fowler and Sylvia Ann Cox Fowler. Mrs. Tyler was a loving homemaker, worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Gangi for many years and was a member of Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church. Previously, we posted that the city would construct temporary handicap ramps at the 8th Avenue North and 12th Avenue North street ends to replace the permanent structures removed to allow for expanded parking. There is a change of plans regarding construction of a temporary handicap ramp at the 8th Avenue North beach access. The city developed a variety of designs and, unfortunately, they resulted in less than two feet of clearance from the top of the dune to the bottom of the structure. Installation of payment kiosks, signage and more has begun in public parking lots on either side of Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach. The paid parking season this year runs from June 15 through October. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The parking fee is $2 per hour.  On June 6, Mayor Marilyn Hatley issued a proclamation recognizing Leonard A. Gardner as a patriot, further proclaiming that it is an honor to have him as a citizen of North Myrtle Beach. On June 6, 1944 (D-Day), America was engaged in a world war against countries who sought to force their beliefs on the free democracies of the world. On that same day, Leonard Gardner, U.S. Army, shipped out to England and joined the 90th Division, then fought his way through Valognes and Montebourg to cut off the Nazis fleeing Cherbourg.
