By John Smithson The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs football team knew that last Friday’s game at The Hank with Carolina Forest was going to be a challenge. They tried to score first and slow the game down in order to slow down the Panthers offense. They actually did that for a few minutes. But reality set in and the Panthers overcame a 7-0 Chiefs lead, scored 35 first half points and won 49-7. Girls Golf — The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs golf team finished in sixth place at the Lower State Championship on Monday. The team also qualified for the state tournament. Storm Williams led the team with an 84 and tied for sixth place overall. The state championship will be held next Monday and Tuesday at the Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway. Boys Volleyball — The North Myrtle Beach boys volleyball team qualified for the SCHSL playoffs. They played Tuesday evening at Conway High School.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has begun bridge repair work on SC 9 Northbound over US 17 starting on Sunday, October 12. This project will require nighttime lane closures that may impact residents and visitors traveling through the North Myrtle Beach area. Work is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 12, through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the end of October. By Gianna Forbis The City of North Myrtle Beach has begun construction on a two million gallon water storage tank and a new 30 inch water transmission line in the Windy Hill area. Work on the transmission line is currently underway along Poinsett Street, while construction of the new water tank has begun in Windy Hill. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026. Construction activity will be limited to public road rights-of-way and designated construction easements.
