The city of Loris and Loris Florist were working hard Tuesday to decorate the Christmas tree located in the Courtyard on Main. April Sims and Debra Norris of Loris Florist along with members of the city of Loris wrap and place ornaments all over the Christmas tree before the Loris Christmas Celebration will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, from 4-9 p.m. with live entertainment, the arrival of Santa, tree lighting, parade and free concert.

Open Hearts Community Outreach sponsored their 10th annual Thanksgiving dinner hosted at Ernie’s Diner in Loris on Thursday. With 34 volunteers preparing turkey and the fixin’s working from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning, doors opened to guests to dine with family, friends and strangers sitting together giving thanks. The Loris Recreation Department has two football teams that have battled their way to the play-offs. On Saturday, Nov. 23, both the 7 & 8U team and the 9 & 10U team won the semi-final district tournament. Tom Cocke, director of the recreation department, said, “History has been made for the Loris Recreation Department.” He stated that this is the first time ever that a Loris Recreation football 7 & 8 team has made it to the District Championship and the first time to have two teams playing. Loris High School (LHS) celebrated the 37 students who were inducted into the Nation Honor Society on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the school auditorium. The guest speaker, Shinead James, LHS alumnus, Class of 2009, addressed the students and family members who attended the ceremony. James is a native of Loris graduating from LHS in 2009. She is the daughter of Lillie James. James graduated from Clemson University earning her bachelor of arts in philosophy with a minor in political science. Last Thursday, city employees installed a six inch pipe at the main waterline at the corner of Broad Street and Thomas Street to place a fire hydrant in front of the apartments on Thomas Street. Fire Chief Jerry Hardee stated he had put in a request for the hydrant. He said, “The main purpose to place the hydrant in this particular location is if there is a fire at the apartments we will be able to run our hoses right there and not block traffic on Main Street or Broad Street.” Hardee has placed another request to install a fire …

North Strand Community Church delivered funds to the beneficiaries of the 7th Annual Golf Tournament held recently. David Henry Johnson Jolly, 89, of Little River passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at River Park Senior Living. Born on April 19, 1930, in Montrose, Scotland, he was the son of the late Annie Jolly. Those surviving include his sons, Kenneth C. Jolly and Stephen F. Jolly; three grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Todd; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cameron and Retta Todd.  Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Eaton Merry. David Clifton Creech, 65, of Little River passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River. Born on March 20, 1954, he was the son of the late J.R. Griggs and Edna Hall Hopkins. Mr. Creech is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Vicki Lester Creech; sons, David Flint (Laura) and Cameron Creech; mother, Edna Hopkins; brothers, Roger and Mike Griggs; and seven grandchildren.
