By James Pease II

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a candidate forum was held in the main room of the Tidewater Amenity Center for the two candidates competing to fill the empty North Myrtle Beach City Council Crescent Beach seat.

Tidewater, a private gated community, hosted the event and invited all residents on Little River Neck Road to attend.

Tidewater Community Homeowners Association Board of Directors Cathy Weis and Jennifer Austin opened the forum and went around the room to anyone who raised their hand to give them a chance to voice their question.

Ray Collins and Melissa Wober took turns answering questions from residents that were in attendance to better understand their issues with the city and to get to know the candidates better.

Ray Collins’ priorities if he is elected is to improve roads to ease traffic and reduce flooding, increase governement transparancy and accountability, encourage smart growth, support law enforcement and first responders and to serve as a voice for our residents.

Melissa Wober’s priorities if she is elected are to promote fiscal responsibility, increase governement transparency and accountability, work to control growth, reduce storm water flooding and improve local roads and to support law enforcement and first responders.

The upcoming special election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, make sure to go out and vote!

Those outside of the Crescent Beach section of North Myrtle Beach are still able to vote.

The early voting period starts on Monday, February 9, 2026, and ends Friday, February 20, 2026 (closed on Saturday and Sunday). Early voting will take place at the Horry County Voter Registration Office, located at 1515 4th Avenue, Conway, S.C. 29526. Their hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
