On Monday, August 11, the City of North Myrtle Beach dedicated the Police and Fire Memorial at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. This is a lasting tribute honoring the brave men and women of the North Myrtle Beach Police and Fire Departments—those who have served, those who continue to serve and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The ceremony featured remarks from North Myrtle Beach City officials, a flag-raising by the Police and Fire Honor Guards and a moment of silence in remembrance.

The City of North Myrtle Beach was especially honored to have the family of Sergeant Gordon Best in attendance as we remembered his service and sacrifice. Sergeant Best’s legacy will forever be etched into the heart of North Myrtle Beach.

“It is our hope that this space will serve as a quiet reminder of the bravery it takes to wear the badge, carry the hose and answer the call—no matter the cost”, said Mayor Marilyn Hatley.
