Galganski named next Fire Chief

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the City of North Myrtle Beach announced that John Galganski has been named the next Fire Chief for the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

Chief Galganski will become the Department’s eighth Fire Chief, effective May 16, 2026, following the retirement of current Fire Chief Billy Floyd, whose final day of service will be Friday, May 15, 2026.

Chief Galganski expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, saying, “It is an honor to serve as Fire Chief for the City of North Myrtle Beach. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and privileged to lead such a dedicated and professional team. I look forward to supporting our firefighters as we continue providing exceptional service and building strong relationships within the community we proudly serve.”

Chief Galganski brings a distinguished career in the fire service, beginning in New Jersey and continuing with extensive leadership experience in southeast Virginia. In June 2023, following his retirement from Virginia, he joined the City of North Myrtle Beach as Deputy Fire Chief, where he has served with dedication and commitment to both the department and the community.

He is a 2011 graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, a 2024 graduate of the South Carolina Firefighters’ Association Leadership Institute and a 2025 graduate of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs’ Chief Officer Academy. In 2023, he also earned the designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Outgoing Chief Billy Floyd shared his support for the appointment, stating, “I am beyond proud that Chief Galganski will have the opportunity to continue leading this department in its growth and progression. Over the last three years, he has engrained himself not only within the department, but in our community as a whole. Our personnel are in great hands with a leader who will continue advocating for them.”
