The Loris City Council has allocated funding to the Loris Chamber of Commerce for the Bog-Off Festival by providing financial support to cover the rental costs of the venue utilized for community events.
The Loris Bog-Off is a yearly festival that occurred on Saturday, October 18, 2025, showcasing a chicken bog cooking competition, live performances, vendors, and activities for children.
The backing from the city council is instrumental in ensuring that this event can be consistently held at this location.
Samantha Norris, executive director of the chamber, submitted a request to the council for $10,000 from the city to extend the property’s rental agreement through September 2026.
“We value our ongoing partnership with the City of Loris and the role this property plays in our community activities. We are eager to continue our lease, This funding will ensure that we can maintain our operations and continue serving the community from this location,” Norris wrote.
This marks the third year Norris has requested city funding for the rent, which she says provides a benefit to the city.
“This property gives us the open space on Main Street and have all kinds of different events, because if we didn’t have that lot, I don’t know what we would do,” Norris said.
The lot accommodates various community events all year round, such as Downtown Tuesdays, the installation of the Christmas tree, and celebrations during the Loris Bog-Off Festival.
According to Mayor Mike Suggs the $10,000 comes from the hospitality fund.
During the regular council meeting held on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, the Loris City Council allocated funds to the Loris Chamber of Commerce to assist with the rental costs for a property located at 4148 Main Street, which the chamber utilizes for events.
The 46th annual Loris Bog-Off Festival took place on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, attracting significant crowds for events focused on the traditional chicken bog dish.
As stated by the mayor of the city, the festival is advantageous for Loris as it creates publicity, attracts visitors who support local businesses and has evolved into a significant community event.
