On a beautiful fall day the ladies in the Yaupon Garden Club gathered for their Tuesday, November 4, 2025, meeting at Wampee Methodist Church. Hostesses for the occasion were YGC members Donna Belski, Margaret Graham, Kathy Jenkins, Deb Madey and Graceann Phillips. President Phillis Newman welcomed everyone and recognized Lynne Payne who provided an inspirational message by Robert Fulghum, entitled, “All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten.”  Following the message and blessing, YGC members were treated to a delicious lunch of three types of homemade soup with all the fixings, beverages and a variety of desserts.

After a time of fellowship and nourishment, President Newman introduced the speaker, YGC member Graceann Phillips. She has not only served twice as Yaupon Garden Club president, but is presently serving a second term as Coastal District Director over 19 garden clubs. As a National Accredited Flower Show judge, she has a sharp eye for proper designs. It was a pleasure to have her demonstrate how to make and decorate boxwood Christmas trees. After her demonstration, she divided the club into four groups, each to design a boxwood Christmas tree that will be judged by Graceann and YGC member Joy Murray (Emeritus Master Flower Show Judge) at the Yaupon Garden Club Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 2.

During the business portion of the meeting, committee reports were given.  Among coming events will be the Friday, November 14, 1 p.m. meeting with the Budding Ecotots at Ocean Drive Elementary School. Everyone is excited about the two Arbor Day celebrations scheduled for Friday, December 5. One will occur at 1 p.m. at Ocean Drive Elementary School with the Budding Ecotots.  The second Arbor Day event will take place at 3 p.m. at the Red Wing Trail at which time two trees will be planted in memory of Eileen Fox and Jeanette Pritchard. Susan Platt and Mary Templeton are co-chairpersons for these events.  YGC members were reminded to put these dates on their calendar along with the Tuesday, December 2, Christmas Party at Joey’s Grille in Tidewater Plantation.

President Newman adjourned the meeting following the singing of happy birthday to Ann Hughes (Nov. 5) and Lynne Payne (Nov. 28).
