Grand Strand Health to break ground on new ER in Little River

Grand Strand Health is expanding access to emergency medical care in Horry County with the groundbreaking of a new freestanding emergency room located in Little River.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 8 to 9 a.m. at 1586 U.S. Highway 17 in Little River.

Community leaders, hospital representatives and local officials will come together to celebrate this important milestone that will bring high quality, 24/7 emergency services closer to home for Little River residents and neighboring communities.

“Little River ER reflects our commitment to making high quality emergency care accessible to our community,” said Mark Sims, Chief Executive Officer of Grand Strand Health. “By bringing these services to Little River, we’re ensuring families have the peace of mind that expert, life saving care is available close to home when it’s needed most.”

Once completed, Little River ER will feature over 10,000 square feet of space and offer full service emergency care staffed by board certified physicians and specially trained clinicians. The facility will include at least ten exam rooms, a dedicated triage room, and advanced imaging capabilities, including X-ray and CT scanning, as well as an on site laboratory.

Little River ER is part of Grand Strand Health’s $350 million comprehensive expansion plan that includes three new freestanding ERs. This October, the system broke ground on a new ER in Murrells Inlet, and they plan on breaking ground on a new ER in Conway in December. Other major investments in the expansion plan include a new hospital located next to South Strand Medical Center and enhancements to the main campus at 809 82nd Parkway in Myrtle Beach, such as a new parking garage and updates to emergency, surgical and laboratory departments.

Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate this exciting step forward in expanding emergency care for the Little River community.
