NMB girls lacrosse coach optimistic for 2026 season

By John Smithson

The girls lacrosse players received a few final comments after practice last Thursday and head coach Danielle Lowrimore smiled as she walked toward me standing on the sideline at The Hank.

Lowrimore continues to build the girls lacrosse program at North Myrtle Beach High School and when asked about this spring’s possibilities for her team she simply said “good.” Then she pointed out some of the reasons for her optimism.

“On February 14th we participated in the Laxapalooza at Socastee High School. We had 25-minute scrimmages with region teams and we did very well.” The reason she stated that was due to experience. “We have nine returning seniors. Four of them started in 7th and 8th grade before we had a JV team, but all of them have been here since 9th grade. This is the true team that has been built on their backs.”

“We have sixteen girls that were 9th graders last year that have moved up and show excellent ball control. We have the field covered this year. At Laxapalooza all the girls that dressed out for varsity, everybody had some sort of statistic, whether it was a goal, an assist, or a ground ball pickup. It was good,” Lowrimore said.

“This year we didn’t make any cuts. We were able to keep everybody. We have a full varsity team and a full JV team. We have some girls in 9th grade who are going back and forth just to get some playing time on the JV level but will be pulled up to the varsity level too. We have backups in positions, like some of the other varsity teams we have played. It’s exciting.”

“All together we have 27 eligible varsity players this year. That is phenomenal compared to where we have been in past years. I really am excited for this team,” Lowrimore said.”

The Lady Chiefs lacrosse season begins on Monday, March 2, at home against West Ashley. The JV team is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and the varsity game follows.at about 7:30 p.m.
