Loris has officially gathered sufficient members in the Loris Regional Lions Club (LRLC) to achieve official charter status. The North Myrtle Beach Lions Club has sponsored the establishment of the LRLC and has provided guidance to President Sherrie Keen and other officers in leading the group towards success.
In recognition of the successful membership drive, which welcomed 20 new men and women to the group, a celebration is planned for 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at Barn View Winery located at 2080 Liberty Church Road.
The Lions District Governor, Daniel Prohaska, will officially present the charter declaration to the members of the LRLC and will serve as the keynote speaker. Currently, Daniel Prohaska holds the position of District Governor for Lions Clubs International District 32-C, which encompasses the Lowcountry and Pee Dee areas of South Carolina. He is a well-respected leader within the South Carolina Lions community, having been an active member for more than ten years. In his capacity, he serves as the primary representative of Lions International in his district, focusing on membership expansion, the establishment of new clubs, and leadership development. Since 2020, he has been the President and CEO of Lions Vision Services (LVS), a statewide nonprofit organization that offers affordable eye care, surgical procedures, and vision equipment to underserved populations in South Carolina. Notably, he is the youngest CEO in the organization’s 50-year history. Additionally, he contributes to public service as the chair of the Dorchester County Conservation and Greenbelt Advisory Commission and is a member of the advisory council for Live Healthy South Carolina’s State Health Improvement Plan.
Sandy Boggs serves as the president of the North Myrtle Beach Lions Club and played a pivotal role in establishing the Loris chapter in 2025. “I take great pride in welcoming these individuals into the Lions,” she remarked. “Loris will be honored to have such an exceptional group of people serving its community.”
The motto of LRLC is ‘Where there is a need, there is a Lion.’ This reflects the group’s commitment to identifying community needs and collaborating to address them.
The LRLC meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at The Center for Health and Fitness at Loris McLeod Health at 3207 Casey Street, Loris. For more information or to get involved with the Loris Regional Lions Club, attend the next meeting or contact Joseph Olive, treasurer, at treasurer.lrc@gmail.com.
Lions Clubs International stands as the largest service club organization worldwide. With 1.42 million members across over 47,000 clubs, we are active in more than 200 countries and regions globally. Since our inception in 1917, Lions have bolstered local communities through direct service and humanitarian initiatives, and we enhance our service reach thanks to the generous contributions from our Lions Clubs International Foundation. Our focus areas include vision, hunger, environmental issues, childhood cancer, and our latest global initiative, diabetes, aimed at tackling some of the most pressing challenges humanity faces. Lions have set an ambitious target of assisting 200 million individuals annually, enabling us to provide even greater service to more people than ever before. “We are thrilled to have collaborated in forming a local Lions Club for the Loris region,” Keen stated. “It has been a collective effort to recruit members and organize free eye screenings over the past year.” She emphasizes that the LRLC will join forces with the community to highlight the needs of the residents in our area. The term ‘Regional’ was added to the name of this charter to specify the group and to avoid confusion with the Loris Lions linked to Loris High School.
