The GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club will participate in the GFWC International Day of Service on Saturday, September 27, 2025, during the Irish Italian Festival on Main Street. This year’s national focus is Ending Domestic and Sexual Violence and the club’s chosen theme is “Light the Path to End Domestic Violence.”
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors are encouraged to stop by the Woman’s Club purple tent to support survivors and help local charities. The club will collect new stuffed animals, Pull-Ups, art supplies and soft blankets—items specifically requested to comfort children affected by domestic violence. Monetary donations will also be accepted and will directly support local service organizations.
“Our goal is not only to provide comfort and resources to survivors but also to create greater awareness and educate our community,” said Kathy Heagen, NMBWC President. “Together, we can break the cycle of violence and light the path of hope for those in need.”
The International Day of Service kicks off a month of community initiatives. With support from the City of North Myrtle Beach, a proclamation has been issued recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and backing the “Paint the Town Purple” campaign.
The campaign will begin on Saturday, October 4, at 10 a.m. in front of North Myrtle Beach City Hall, where Mayor Marilyn Hatley will address the community. Following the ceremony, purple ribbons will be placed along Main Street as a visual reminder of the cause.
Later in October, the Woman’s Club will hold its annual awareness walk, “What a Difference a Mile Makes,” which highlights the impact of domestic violence while offering education and support.
The club’s efforts to end domestic violence extend beyond these events, reflecting its year-round commitment to advocacy and service.
