VFW POST 10804 earns newsletter award

For the second year in a row, North Myrtle Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10804 has earned the Department of South Carolina Communication Award for its outstanding monthly newsletter. The award was presented at the Department’s (state) Spring Conference held in Greenville.

The criteria for the Post Newsletter includes providing information (names and contact means) of all elected and appointed officers at the Post and District levels, membership activity and recruiting initiatives, advance information about upcoming post events such as Poppy distribution, post and district elections, special post events (like post educational activities, veterans memorial services, community event participation, etc.), information helpful to veterans on the post, department and national web sites and how to access this information, how to be buried at a National Cemetery or Arlington National Cemetery, listing monthly Post and Auxiliary meetings and anything else deemed helpful to veterans.

With the approval of Post Commander Nick Camera, Post member Bill La Monte started the newsletter 21 months ago and has produced a monthly newsletter ever since. As the writer and editor, Bill has been and is responsible for the design and content of every newsletter. It is his research that provides the material for each newsletter. Commander Camera provides a monthly Commanders Call to each newsletter (his input for all post members) and has final approval for the publishing of each newsletter. He then sends the newsletter by email to every post member that has a listed email address. The newsletter is also posted on the post website and a paper copy is displayed on the post bulletin board for anyone to read.
