The number one seed Lady Chiefs volleyball team won their second-round match Monday night over Berkeley 3-0 at North Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs had a bye in the first round of the SCHSL 5A Division 2 playoffs and Berkeley (7-17) came into North Myrtle Beach after beating West Florence in their first round match.
The Chiefs got off to a slow start as the Lady Stags stayed within four points of the Chiefs until the Chiefs led 20-16. At that point Clara Cloninger had five kills to put away Berkeley 25-17.
The Chiefs raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second set before a Berkeley timeout. The Chiefs had 13 kills in the set and the Stags late point run wasn’t enough as the Chiefs won the set 25-9.
The third set was also dominated by the Chiefs as they won again 25-9. Harlow Horton had three aces. Katlyn Powers and Lilly Loeswick each had two aces in the set.
The Chiefs third round match was Wednesday night. The winner of the match between Chapin and Lucy Beckham was the Lady Chiefs opponent.
