Public safety heroes to be honored with dedication

By Lauren Jessie

The City of North Myrtle Beach invites the community to attend a Dedication Ceremony for the Police and Fire Memorial on Monday, August 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

The memorial, located near the entrance of the Park and Sports Complex, recognizes all the brave men and women who have served with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department or North Myrtle Beach Fire Department. The memorial also honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It stands as a lasting tribute to their courage, dedication and commitment to protecting our community.

“We are proud to dedicate this memorial as a place of reflection, respect, and remembrance,” said North Myrtle Beach Fire Chief Billy Floyd. “It is a meaningful symbol of the selfless service our Police Officers and Firefighters provide every day.”

The ceremony will include remarks from North Myrtle Beach City officials, a flag-raising for each memorial conducted by the NMB Police Department and Fire Department Honor Guards and a moment of silence in remembrance.

North Myrtle Beach Police Chief Dana Crowell added, “This memorial is a powerful reminder of the risks our public safety professionals face daily. We are especially honored that the family of Sergeant Gordon Best will be in attendance as we remember his sacrifice and ensure his legacy lives on.”

All members of the public are encouraged to attend this meaningful event.
