Library receives accessibility grant

Green Sea Floyds Library is pleased to announce that it has been selected to participate in the American Library Association’s Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities initiative. Through this national program, the library has been awarded $10,000 to support accessibility improvements that will better serve individuals with disabilities in the Green Sea Floyds community.

As part of this project, the library will host a community conversation on Wednesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Green Sea Community Center, 5331 Highway 9, Green Sea, S.C. Residents, caregivers, community organizations and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend and share their ideas.

The purpose of the conversation is to learn directly from community members about accessibility challenges and opportunities within the community. Feedback gathered during the event will help guide how grant funding is used to make meaningful improvements that increase access and inclusion.

“This grant provides an opportunity to listen to our community and better understand the needs of individuals with disabilities,” said Melissa Shenk, Branch Manager of Green Sea Floyds Library. “The goal is to make thoughtful improvements that help ensure everyone can fully access and enjoy library services and programs.”

Community members do not need to be library users to participate. Anyone interested in helping shape a more accessible community is welcome to attend.
