Hall is garden club speaker

The Loris Garden Club met on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 4 p.m. on Walnut Street at the Mishoe Stoudenmire Building in Loris. President Gloria Kinney welcomed the group and recited the invocation. The club’s meeting venue was decorated with whimsical and adorable St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun figurines, a tree festooned with shamrocks and included delicious refreshments; all of which were provided by hostesses Wanda Cox, Barbara Enzor and Gloria Kinney.

Vice president David Stoudenmire introduced the club’s guest speaker, Brooke Hall, Agricultural Instructor at Loris High School. Ms. Hall reviewed the Agricultural Program at the High School, which has enjoyed an increasing number of students yearly who are drawn to horticulture and agricultural activities and events and who go on after graduation to pursue those interests with Clemson and the University of South Carolina as well as several other colleges and universities. Ms. Hall displayed a slide program showcasing the students’ accomplishments and the varieties of plants which the students learn to cultivate. Ms. Hall also discussed the students’ upcoming Plant Sale on Saturday, March 28, at Loris High School from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Following the presentation, President Kinney called the meeting to order and led the group in reciting the Club Collect, the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Garden Club of South Carolina Pledge of Allegiance. Member Carl Claytor provided updates on the Butterfly Garden, the beautification plan for the Point and the Nature Park. President Kinney reported five entries for the Coastal District Awards prepared by the club’s members for the Coastal District meeting at the Wellness Center in Dillon on Thursday, March 12, and that the GCSC State Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Riverbanks Botantical Garden in Columbia, S.C.

The club welcomed new member Cheryl Mallet. President Kinney presented the arrangement for the month titled “Spring Arrival” that included Johnny Quills in a yellow pot adorned with bunny and bee figurines. The door prize was drawn and President Kinney led the group in reciting the Club Benediction. The meeting was then adjourned.
