Wellons hosts NMB event

Republican candidate for Horry County School Board Chair, Melanie Wellons, right, was out campaiging last Tuesday during an ice cream social held at the corner of Sea Mountain Highway and Highway 90.

Melanie Wellons, Republican candidate for Horry County School Board Chair, was in North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, May 19, as part of a countywide listening tour.  Wellons has hosted ice cream socials in every area of the county in an effort to meet with voters and to hear their concerns ahead of the upcoming Tuesday, June 9, Republican Primary.

Wellons said the conversations have been very positive and that she has been encouraged by the support she has seen for Horry County Schools.

“I have really tried to focus on transparency and fiscal responsibility,” Wellons said.  “It’s so important that we give the tools they need to grow into successful adults….to make sure they are ready to go on to college or to become a part of the workforce, and I think taxpayers deserve to know that their hard-earned dollars are being used wisely in that effort,” she continued.

Wellons was appointed to the Horry County School Board, District 8 in April 2021 to fill the unexpired term of John Poston, winning the election in 2022 and re-election in 2024. Wellons is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and is the Vice President of Arnold’s Pools. She previously served five years on the Carolina Forest High School Improvement Council and five years on the Carolina Forest Advisory Board. Melanie lives in Conway with her husband David and they attend the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. They have two grown children, Madalyn, a teacher, and David who works in the family business. They have also welcomed son-in-law Addison into their growing family.

The Republican Primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 9.  Early voting for the election will be open May 26-June 5.  Voters are encouraged to visit scvotes.gov for more information.
