North Myrtle Beach Times Serving our Community and the Grand Strand for over 50 years
The North Myrtle Beach City Council met in a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
There were nine items on the consent portion of the agenda:
A. MOTION TO APPROVE: Anderson Estep Surfing Championship to be held on June 6, 2026 (APPROVED).
B. MOTION TO APPROVE: Shepard Center Day of Adaptive Surfing to be held on June 13, 2026 (APPROVED).
C. MOTION TO APPROVE: North Myrtle Beach Ocean Rescue Junior Lifeguard Camp to be held June 16, 2026, to August 13, 2026 (APPROVED).
D. RESOLUTION: To amend the terms for the City’s option to extend the Parasail and Banana Boat Franchise Agreement between the City and Aaron Lewis for an additional five-year term (APPROVED).
E. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendment to the Towers on the Grove Planned Development District (PDD) creating an oceanfront paid parking lot (POSTPONED – REFERRED BACK TO PLANNING COMMISSION).
F. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendment to the Peppertree Ocean Club Planned Development District (PDD) allowing additional building signage (APPROVED).
G. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendments to Chapter 23, Zoning, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, adding places of worship to the allowed uses in R-2A (APPROVED).
H. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendments to Chapter 23, Zoning, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, correcting terms for the Board of Zoning Appeals (APPROVED).
I. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendments to Chapter 23, Zoning, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, codifying staggered terms for the Planning Commission (APPROVED).
There were four items on the unfinished business agenda:
A. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendment to the Gator Hole Planned Development District (PDD) revising the TGI Friday’s site to a new Chick-fil-A site (APPROVED).
B. ORDINANCE/SECOND READING: Amendment to the Hope Pointe Planned Development District (PDD) replacing the previously approved townhomes along Sanctuary Way with detached cottage-style homes NOTE: Petitioner requests to postpone (POSTPONED).
C. ORDINANCE/FIRST READING: Amendments to Chapter 11, Fire Prevention, Section 11-9, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina regarding open burning (APPROVED).
D. ORDINANCE/FIRST READING: Amendments to Chapter 22, Vehicles for Hire, of the Code of Ordinances of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, regarding towing from private property (APPROVED).
