Gardens, Elks Lodge host veteran service ceremony

The Conway Celtic Pipers play a song in tribute of the fallen.

By Trish Heine

Each May on Memorial Day we gather to remember those service men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom today. North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens and the Little River Elks Lodge #2840 hosted the cemetery’s 77th veteran service celebration. Community members and veterans alike gathered to remember and honor those fallen heroes not only at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens but those of our nation.  When speaking to veterans and hearing their stories of their fellow soldiers, comrades and friends, they were their family. We too, as Americans, are family standing united together as one. As we move forward through the next few weeks to July 4th, let us remember it is not just a holiday and beyond the celebrations the day our unalienable rights of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” began.

A very huge thank you goes out to all the participants and volunteers: guest speaker Rev. Kim Strong, Captain, Chaplain U.S. Air Force, Horry County Fire and Rescue; Singer, Tammy Nance Barbour, Conway Celtic Pipers, Nurses Honor Guard of S.C. and Marine Corps League Little River Detachment #1432, Walmart, members of the Elks Lodge, Burroughs Funeral Home, North Myrtle Beach Rescue and The Mozeley Family.

Horry County Fire and Rescue dispatch members were in attendance for the Memorial Day event on Monday, May 25.
