Destination North Myrtle Beach held their annual State of the Series event on Friday, April 17, in the Chestnut Room at Bay Watch Resort in North Myrtle Beach.

Cheryl Kilday opened up the meeting with the upcoming events Destination NMB would be involved in and hosting. Kilday then welcomed Anna Strickland with Santee Cooper.

Strickland discussed how Santee Cooper plans to grow over the next ten years as the company nears a century in business.

“It’s a ten year, $10 billion capital fund,” stated Strickland. “We are investing over $300 million on infrastructure. focusing on our distribution system as well as adding an additional 5,000 megawatts to our system. That is how much growth South Carolina is experiencing.”

Strickland continued, “In 2026, we’re also continuing to inspect and replace utility poles with about 200 poles already replaced just this year.”

“We work closely with all the municipalities to do that and North Myrtle Beach Beach has always been ahead of the game on doing that to help with resiliency.”

“We’re completing the substation in the area as well as upgrading six existing substations.”

“Lots of projects are going on and you’ll continue to hear about what we’re doing over the next decade.”
