Ecotots receive diplomas

By Mary Templeton

Everyone loves a graduation, even Mrs. Holloway’s kindergarteners at Ocean Drive Elementary School.  On Friday, May 8, the students became official Ecotots as they received their diplomas from the Yaupon Garden Club.

It was also an opportunity to make a special surprise to take home for Mother’s Day. Yaupon Garden Club member Graceann Phillips began by reading “Are You My Mother” by Dr. Seuss. Member Belinda Roy then demonstrated the process they would follow to create a lovely spring bouquet for their mothers.  YGC members Margaret Graham, Joy Murray and Graceann Phillips assisted the students with this project. Everyone was very pleased with their Mother’s Day gift.

Joy Murray led the Ecotots in a review of everything they had learned over the school year. The students were eager to demonstrate their knowledge.  Their “one shining moment” arrived when each one was called by name to receive their certificate from Margaret Graham. They all loved their ovation and attention.

It was a wonderful year of learning how to preserve and protect our environment.  The earth will be in good hands with these knowledgeable Ecotots watching over it.
