The final weekend of the 87th Annual Spring Myrtle Beach Bike Rally dissolved into streetfights in the North Strand, leaving multiple law enforcement officers injured and resulting in several arrests.
The altercations, which occurred on the night of Saturday, May 16, forced a large-scale, multi-agency tactical response in the heavily congested Main Street commercial district of North Myrtle Beach.
According to official statements and field reports from the North Myrtle Beach Police Department (NMBPD), ground units responded to a sequence of rapidly escalating disturbances, fights and assaults centered around the bar area of Main Street.
As officers moved in to break up the brawls and execute arrests, the crowd dynamics turned hostile. Multiple city police officers sustained injuries during the enforcement actions.
While most of the injured personnel were treated at the scene, one officer required emergency transport to a local medical facility for evaluation and treatment. City officials have since confirmed that the hospitalized officer is expected to make a full and rapid recovery.
The scale of the disturbances required immediate mutual aid, drawing in tactical support from the Horry County Police Department. NMBPD credited the county’s rapid reinforcement with enabling their units to protect public safety and clear the area.
In the immediate aftermath of the Saturday night scuffle, the NMBPD issued a hardline public notice via social media, declaring that violence, disorderly conduct and assaultive behavior would face zero tolerance in the city.
Despite the injuries to their personnel, administration officials framed the fights as isolated incidents, commending the “overwhelming majority” of the thousands of visitors who attended the ten-day regional rally responsibly.
