The S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) released the new dates for two public meetings for the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway (SC 31) Extension project.
The meetings were postponed earlier this month due to the potential for tropical weather.
The community is invited to attend the following public meetings to learn more about this project:
Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the North Strand Recreation Center, 120 State Highway 57 South, in Longs.
Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sea Trail Convention Center, 75-A Clubhouse Road in Sunset Beach, N.C.
The meetings can be joined online at ncdot.gov under the public meetings section.
NCDOT and SCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. The opportunity to provide verbal comments and/or submit written comments and questions will be provided.
Each meeting will begin with an open house public meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for the public to review information on the project, the environmental document and map of the recommended alternative. This open format will be followed by a formal presentation at 7 p.m.
The project would extend Carolina Bays Parkway (S.C. 31) from its current location at S.C. 9 in Horry County, across the North Carolina state line to U.S. 17 in Brunswick County, North Carolina, near Shallotte, North Carolina..
The RIDE Program will provide funding for the South Carolina portion of the project. It is expected to involve construction of a multi-lane expressway and may include both existing roadways and areas on new locations.
The primary purpose of the project is to improve transportation in the area by enhancing mobility and connectivity for traffic moving in and through the project area.
