Juneteenth celebrated as a paid federal holiday

If you went to your mailbox to find it empty on Monday, June 19, it is because there is a new paid federal holiday added to the calendar in June 2022. Government offices and banks were closed to take a paid federal holiday that was recently recognized by the Biden Administration to raise awareness of an important historical moment in United States history of ending slavery. Beginning with the state of Texas by proclamation in 1938 and by legislation in 1979 every state in the United States and the District of Columbia has formally recognized Juneteenth in some way. Lady Chiefs softball finishes second in host Loris tournament

The Lady Chiefs varsity softball team began their season with the Loris Preseason Tournament last Friday through Monday, with the Chiefs facing host team Loris for the championship on Monday night. Unfortunately the Lady Lions won the championship game 12-2.

Habitat for Humanity to hold groundbreaking for new Longs ReStore location

The nonprofit organization already operates one ReStore in Myrtle Beach and will be breaking ground on their second location in the local area on Friday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. Staff from Habitat's ReStore organization board members will be on hand for the ceremony, as well as community members from the North Myrtle Beach area.

Bluffton girls, Socastee boys win Michael B. Nash Memorial Tournament

A few rain showers swept through the North Myrtle Beach area but couldn’t dampen the start of the 30th Michael B. Nash Memorial Soccer Tournament on Friday night. This year’s edition of this scholarship fundraiser got underway on time, as eight girls teams and six boys teams began play over two days to crown a tournament champion.
