Auditors present their findings

The Loris City Council met on Wednesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall for the express purpose to discuss the audit from the year 2015-16. Present at the meeting were Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Todd Harrelson, Mike Suggs and Jan Vescovi; Terrence Hardee was not present.  Also present was Kenya Wright, city clerk and treasurer and Damon Kempski, city administrator.  Department Heads present were Brandon Harrelson, Tom Cocke, LPD Chief Gary Buley, LPD Lt. GSF High School honors Army JROTC students

On Friday, May 24 Green Sea Floyds High School held its annual awards ceremony for their students enrolled in the U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program. North Myrtle Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10804 has been a part of this awards program for the last few years and has presented VFW awards to deserving students nominated by their Army instructors. City thanks LPD with special events

National Police week began on Sunday, May 12, recognizing the police officers across the nation for their service and bowing their heads for those who lost their lives in the line of duty.  In Loris the city administration and Loris Police Department gathered at the flags between Railroad Avenue and Meeting Street to lower the flags to half-staff.  Kenya Wright, Damon Kempski, Todd Harrelson, Chief Gary Buley and Officer Allen Oxendine bowed their heads in prayer before lowering the city and state flags and then the American flag. Church establishes ‘The Underground’

By Pastor Hunter Johnson About one year ago, the Youth Council met to talk about a donation that had been made to our ministry and how we would like to use it. We began throwing around ideas of how we could accomplish “kingdom work” with the money that had been given to us. As we prayed and sought guidance an amazing idea came into focus. Artfields and Artfields Jr. Awards ceremony

Artfields and Artfields Jr. Awards ceremony was held May 4 in Lake City. In the Jr. division, they received 800 pieces of Art and only chose 200 to be in the competition. AAST–the Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology in Myrtle Beach had 3 winners in the 9th-12th grade. Forum for Candidates for Loris Mayor

The League of Women Voters of Horry County in partnership with the Loris Women’s Council will host a Candidates Forum for the special election for Loris Mayor at McCloud Health and Wellness Center, 3207 Casey St. The event will be held on May 20th at 6:00 pm. All are invited to attend this free Forum. The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is encouraging voter participation.
