On Saturday, Dec. 7, at 8 a.m. children gathered at the Public Safety Building to meet with Santa and eat a hearty breakfast together. To the surprise of the children another special visitor wanted to help with the breakfast, the Grinch came along with Santa. The breakfast consisted of green pancakes, sausage, green punch and orange juice from the Grinch himself. Grayson Technical Apprenticeship Program staff recognized the students graduating the apprenticeship program on Saturday, Dec. 20. This is the fifth graduation ceremony for students to celebrate their accomplishments. Fifteen students graduated and received their certification in one of 12 trades offered, including machine operator, installer servicer, drywall finisher/electrician, construction craft laborer, building inspector (construction) and plumber craft apprentice. Grayson is a company employer sponsored apprenticeship career training program located in Loris. Loris Fire Team 2019 celebrates 91 years of service
The Loris Fire Department Volunteer Fire Team celebrated 91 years of service with their Annual Christmas – Holiday Party this week. Fire Chief Jerry Hardee was honored with 45 years of service with the department. FF Jamie Stevens was honored with 15 years of service with the LFD. The majority of the current Fire Team along with Life Members, Auxiliary and Family members celebrated fellowship at Adams Seafood. The Tabor City Fire Department provided coverage for the Loris Fire Department while the team was out of town.

The Loris Christmas Celebration took place in downtown Loris on Friday, Dec. 6. The events were held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a variety of holiday entertainment at the Courtyard on Main. The Loris High School (LHS) cheerleaders attend camp each summer at local colleges to learn new routines to perform during the football and basketball games. This summer Kaitlyn Delvin tried out for a position on the cheerleader squad during the summer camp and was recently notified that she has been selected to be one of the cheerleaders to march in the New Year’s Parade in London, England. Loris Broadcasting Radio Sports (LBI) was live from Green Sea Floyds Luther Enzor Field recently. The pre-game show begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the 7:30 p.m. kickoff. LBI Radio owners Glenn Hardee and Mike Suggs provided a play-by-play account of the game, players and action as it takes place. Both Hardee and Suggs graduated from Loris High School in 1981. After graduation Hardee began working at WLSC Radio in Loris working with Suggs. Santa Claus visited the Loris Library on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. to read a storybook to children visiting the library. Children ages three and four from Grace Christian Academy and a few toddlers visited with Santa to listen to him read “Twas the Nigh Before Christmas”. Each child patiently listened to him go through the routine of reading and showing the pictures in the book.
