By Kaye Collins Horry County Police responded to reports of gunfire on the evening of Sunday, September 21, in the Longs area. Four vehicles sustained damage from bullets during what appeared to be a gunfight. Officers arrived at the intersection of Bombing Range Road and Dewitt Road around 9:30 p.m. after receiving calls about shots being fired. A witness reported hearing over 27 shots fired. Officers discovered approximately 25 shell casings, which included 40 caliber, 7.62 caliber and 45 caliber rounds, scattered along a half-mile stretch of the road, as stated in the report. During a press conference on Monday, state and local officials revealed a significant enforcement initiative regarding the state’s Move Over Law, as well as a wider effort to combat distracted driving, which includes the recently enacted Hands Over Law.
