On a delightfully, glorious Tuesday, March 2, 2026, the ladies in the Yaupon Garden Club took a scenic walk through Vereen Gardens in Little River. Club president Phillis Newman was the guide and began the tour at the CB Berry Center. A historical display housed in an attractive case provides articles and artifacts associated with Vereen Gardens. Jack Bambach, husband of Yaupon Garden Club member Dorothy Bambach, prepared the display case and graciously gifted it to the CB Berry Center. President Newman led the YGC members through the scenic gardens. Along the tour, club members were shown Buckeye Pond, the historic Vereen Family cemetery and the many walkways that traverse the saltwater marshes. These walkways feature signage that explains the foliage and animals within Vereen Gardens. It was a picture perfect day for this historical walking tour.
Following the Vereen Gardens Tour, President Newman welcomed everyone to a working lunch at Hurricane Juels in Little River. YGC members Dorothy Bambach and Jolene Puffer were hostesses for the luncheon. Everyone enjoyed food and fellowship prior to President Newman conducting a business meeting. President Newman informed the membership of the upcoming KNMBB Plant Swap on Wednesday, April 22, at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center. She announced the Coastal District Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 12, and the Garden Club of South Carolina will have the state meeting on Thursday, April 23, in Columbia. Committee reports were provided by each chairperson and outlined activities planned for the Pollination Station, Ecotots, Red Wing Trail and National Garden Week.
President Newman thanked everyone for attending and announced the next meeting will be a tour of the Mehera Spiritual Center in North Myrtle Beach. Everyone expressed appreciation for such an informative and enjoyable meeting. With the weather warming, everyone is ready to start working outside.
