The Chiefs boys soccer team had a 14-4 record this season and earned a spot in the SCHSL playoffs. Their first match last Wednesday at The Hank was against the Irmo Yellow Jackets who were 3-14 in regular season play.

The Chiefs played hard and kept offensive pressure in the first half, but the score was 0-0 as the teams finished the first 40 minutes of play. Coach Zachariah Brittain watched the team respond in the second half for a 2-0 first round playoff win.

“We have been talking about high energy all year. Tonight I decided to change it because it wasn’t working for me. High energy hasn’t been enough. We have needed relentless energy, energy that doesn’t end. From the minute of the first whistle up until the last whistle tonight we played the best game we could. 2-0 won us this game,” Brittain said.

“We were knocking on the door the whole time and it finally opened up for us. The first goal was scored by JC Hernandez Sanchez. His incredible left foot always surprises us. That was a good one. The second goal was by Cristhian Vasquez, his 13th goal of the year.  He’s one of the many players who have built the village that is this team. I could not be prouder of these guys,” Brittain said.

The Chiefs learned after the match that they would be traveling to Mt. Pleasant last Saturday afternoon for a match with Lucy Beckham, 18-3 coming in to the match. Unfortunately, the Chiefs added a win to that record, losing 3-0, or 0-3 if you prefer.

The Chiefs finished the year 14-5.
