Chiefs track teams compete at Lower State

Athletes from the NMB High School boys and girls track teams competed last Saturday in the SCHSL 5A Division II Lower State track meet. The meet was held at The Hank with teams attending from Myrtle Beach, Conway, Socastee, St. James, Berkeley, Goose Creek, Lucy Beckham, and West Florence.

To possibly qualify for the state championships, athletes who finished in the top three in their events in each qualifying location totaled nine qualifiers. Then they take the next best seven athletes not in the top three from the three locations to get a total of 16 athletes qualifying.

Individuals from the Lady Chiefs team who qualified are: Fenna Hollo, first in the 1600  meter run; Israfel Thomason, third in the 100 meter hurdles; Halle Morris, second in the 400 meter hurdle;, Israfel Thomas, third in the high jump; Brandi Gore, second in the long jump; Alexandra Hines, third in the pole vault; Lucy Stalvey, second in the javelin.

Members of the boys team who qualified for the state meet included: Jaden Chestnut, first in the 100 meter dash and third in the 200 meter dash; Ny’Ray Hannah, second in the 400 meter hurdles; The 4×100 meter relay team that finished first; Ny’Ray Hannah finished first in the triple jump; Norvion Finklea, third in the triple jump; Dylan Kempf,  first in the pole vault.

Chiefs athletes who were not automatically qualified are;

Girls team; the 4×800 team of Fenna Hollo, Lucy Stalvey, Robyn Walsh and Aleha Lang; the 4×100 team of Halle Morris, Keaisha Bryant, Gabby Woodard, Israfel Thomason. Also Khamani Owens, shot put; Robyn Walsh, Javelin; Ravyn Walsh, high jump.

Boys team athlete Jerrel Bellamy also qualified for the 100 and 400 hurdles.

The state championship meet will be held this Saturday, at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia.
