Local residents looking to prioritize health and community connection have two significant, cost-free opportunities as Horry County launches back-to-back wellness initiatives this week.
From mental health advocacy to beachfront athletics, these events utilize the area’s natural landscapes to provide accessible resources for families and individuals.
The weekend begins on Friday, May 15, with the “Steps Against Stigma” Mental Health Action Day at Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens in Little River.
Organized by Horry County Behavioral Services and Parks and Recreation, this event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and features a Wellness Walk and Resource Fair.
Participants are encouraged to wear green as they connect with local service providers and explore behavioral health resources in a low-pressure, outdoor setting.
Organizers emphasize that these steps are vital for building a more supportive local network and reducing the barriers often associated with seeking mental health assistance.
The activity shifts to the North Myrtle Beach shoreline on Saturday, May 16, for the CarolinaKids Run Club – Grand Strand 1st Annual 5K Race.
Kicking off at 10 a.m. on the North Myrtle Beach beachfront in the Ocean Drive section, this inaugural event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Parking for the event will be around Main Street and Ocean Boulevard.
While the race is entirely free to the public, participants must complete a digital registration via Google Forms prior to race day.
By centering the competition on the beach, the club aims to foster community spirit and promote physical activity through a family-oriented coastal event.
