By Annie Rigby The parade of the Lion Pride is sponsoring the Loris Elementary School Lion Pride as the teachers and staff caravan through Loris and keeping acceptable social distancing. There is no way the caravan can drive past each home or drive every street of the city. Local boy receives a ride-by parade from city

NMB schedules construction of oceanfront handicap ramps

The City of North Myrtle Beach has scheduled the construction of three street end dune walkovers, converting steps installed during the expansion of the parking lots back to handicap ramps. The construction schedule is as follows: 7th Avenue North – May 4-8; 15th Avenue North – May 11-15; and 17th Avenue North – May 18-22. As always, the construction dates are dependent on the weather. Flush all onsite plumbing systems when reopening

As commercial establishments (retail stores, restaurants, etc.) and rental properties (hotels, condos, beach homes, etc.) begin to reopen in our area, the city of North Myrtle Beach requests that these water customers completely flush their onsite plumbing system. All internal plumbing lines (i.e. hot and cold water piping), water heaters, faucets and fixtures within these facilities should be flushed to purge water that may have become stagnant after low or no usage. Stagnant water can lead to poor water quality and low levels of disinfectant in the water. Disinfectants are necessary to keep the water safe for consumption. Please be …

Deanna Marie Smith, 43, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020. She was born on April 5, 1977, in Horry County, the daughter of the late Keith and Eva Isabell Lewis. She grew up in the Little River Neck section of Horry County and attended North Myrtle Beach High School. Deanna worked for Cracker Barrel in North Myrtle Beach and various other jobs in the food industry in other states she lived in. James Edward Smith, 83, of Little River died on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Sept. 15, 1936, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late James C. and Bertha Benesch Smith. Mr. Smith served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sonia Navitski Smith; two sons, Gregory Smith and Christopher Smith; one daughter, Denise Leubecker; one sister, JoAnne Morton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Peggy Harrelson Clemons, 87, of Green Sea went to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, after an extended illness. Mrs. Clemons was born on Dec. 18, 1932, in Loris to the late Harmon Quincy Harrelson and the late Minnie Pridgen Harrelson. She was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church for 57 years and currently a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Loris. She was a seamstress prior to her retirement after 25 years with Tabor Products.
