The North Myrtle Beach High School Chief Idol Competition was a success and winners have been announced. Both the high school and middle school divisions had fierce competitiors. Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite tubers, and what better time to celebrate them than National Sweet Potato Awareness Month. Ken Sibal, 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, at home surrounded by his family in Little River. He was born on July 11, 1936, to Emil and Marie Sibal. Ken grew up in the Bronx, N.Y. He graduated from The McBurney School in Manhattan in 1952. After high school he received his BA degree from Lafayette College (Easton, Pa.) and his master’s degree from Florida State University (Tallahassee, Fla.). Flora Berniece Garrell Dunnagan of Myrtle Beach died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019. She was born on Dec. 28, 1926, to Clarence Dow Garrell and Bertha Elizabeth Garrell of Tabor City, N.C. James Prentiss Norton Sr., 80, of Loris passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at his home following an illness.
