Longs man sentenced to 20 years following successive fentanyl arrests

By Ruben Lowman A 32-year old resident of the Longs community has been sentenced to two decades in prison following a series of drug-related arrests involving the potent synthetic opioid fentanyl. Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson announced that Christopher Vereen of Longs entered guilty pleas last week to charges of first-offense trafficking of fentanyl between four and fourteen grams and second-offense possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. The legal proceedings concluded with a significant sentence aimed at addressing the repeated nature of the defendant’s criminal activity within the Horry County area. The GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club will host its annual “Purses with Purpose” Charity Event on Thursday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the Nautilus Ballroom at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. Fire Chief Floyd retires on May 16

The City of North Myrtle Beach announces the retirement of Fire Chief Billy Floyd, effective Saturday, May 16, 2026, following a long and distinguished career in the fire service, with just over sixteen years of that service to the North Myrtle Beach community. Chief Floyd originally joined the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department in May 2005 as Firefighter/PSO, working his way up to the rank of Training Captain before leaving the department in October 2008 to take an opportunity with a neighboring department. Traffic concerns stall Chick-fil-A expansion
