Garden Club members enjoy local treasure

By Mary Templeton On a delightfully, glorious Tuesday, March 2, 2026, the ladies in the Yaupon Garden Club took a scenic walk through Vereen Gardens in Little River. Club president Phillis Newman was the guide and began the tour at the CB Berry Center. A historical display housed in an attractive case provides articles and artifacts associated with Vereen Gardens. Jack Bambach, husband of Yaupon Garden Club member Dorothy Bambach, prepared the display case and graciously gifted it to the CB Berry Center. Waterway Spring Art Show is opening soon

By Bonnie McIver The Waterway Art Association (WAA) announces its Spring Art Show and Sale Monday, April 20, through Saturday, April 25, at the Sunset River Gallery in Calabash, N.C. The 35th annual judged exhibit features painters from the greater Calabash region of the Carolinas. A raffle of original art raises scholarship funds for aspiring college bound art students. This year’s judge is Wilmington artist and teacher Todd Carignan. Todd teaches at the Cameron Art Museum, has judged numerous competitions, and shows in galleries throughout the country. County to host Citizens Planning Academy

Do you want to learn more about the role of planning and zoning in unincorporated Horry County? Do you want to know how to get involved in the decision-making process and guiding the future of our county? Then you may be interested in participating in this education series. Registration for Citizen Planning Academy opened on Sunday, March 8. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, May 31, 2026, and attendees announced by Monday, June 15. Stormwater improvement project nearing completion

Horry County officials announced this week that a significant stormwater improvement project in the Longs area has reached the 75 percent completion mark. The $3 million initiative is a targeted effort to harden the local infrastructure against the chronic flooding that has historically plagued this community. North Myrtle Beach will go green on Saturday, March 14, as the 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival returns to Main Street for a full day of family-friendly fun. The parade kicks off at 9 a.m., followed by the festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This one-day, rain-or-shine celebration draws more than 30,000 attendees annually, making it one of the Grand Strand’s most anticipated events. The Kiwanis Club of North Myrtle Beach–Little River and Little River United Methodist Church (LRUMC), in partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank, continue making a difference in the fight against food insecurity through their no-cost food distribution program serving Little River and the surrounding communities. Little River Library renovation to expand space, improve services

A new chapter is underway for the Little River Library. Located within the Ralph Ellis Complex off Highway 57, the branch first opened in 1996 as the Stevens Crossroads Library. Although the name was updated in 2006 to align with the county system, the building itself has remained largely unchanged. “This building was built over 30 years ago and it was a different era. Our library users had different needs. Ten beautiful contestants competed for two titles during several events leading up to crowning. First, the girls participated in a five minute panel interview where they spoke about their platforms, future plans and other various subjects. The City of North Myrtle Beach is accepting applications for an open seat on the North Myrtle Beach Tree Board. The appointment is for a four-year term and will be made by the Mayor and City Council. The Tree Board plays a key role in supporting the city’s urban forestry efforts and maintaining its Tree City USA designation. Board members work with city staff and leadership to enhance the community’s trees, environment and long-term sustainability.
