The North Myrtle Beach Tree Board has selected a Pig Nut Hickory (Carya Glabra) as the September Tree of the Month. This tall tree is found near Hill Street and Amaron Court in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach.
As autumn arrives, it will show its fall golden leaves. Pig Nut Hickories are native to the southeastern United States. They produce bitter nuts that are good for wildlife. Their strong wood is valued for fuel, tool handles, sporting goods equipment and agricultural implements.
