Melissa Wober has announced her candidacy for the North Myrtle Beach City Council Crescent Beach District.
Wober is running in a special election to replace J Baldwin who is vacating the seat after his successful election as mayor.
“I’ll bring a fresh, new perspective to city council. I was born here in North Myrtle Beach, but I left for college and spent years working and raising my children in different areas. When my husband and I decided to move back here several years ago, I was excited to see all the changes,” Wober said.
Wober said she would focus her work on better managing growth in the city and improving our roads and infrastructure. “By being selective about the development, you allow whether that’s residential or commercial, implementing impact fees to put the financial burden on developers and ensuring that our local roads and systems can keep up.”
Wober also said she would focus on promoting beach renourishment projects, improved beach access and parking for residents, addressing local concerns about short term rentals and keeping taxes low.
Melissa Wober works for Coastal Carolina National Bank in North Myrtle Beach. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Limestone College and is a graduate of Leadership Grand Strand and McLeod Fellows and the North Myrtle Beach Citizens Academy. Melissa currently serves on the North Myrtle Beach Board of Zoning and Appeals, the McLeod Foundation Board, the YMCA of North Myrtle Beach Advisory Board, Destination North Myrtle Beach Foundation Board and as president of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club.
She and her husband Christian make their home in Crescent Beach and are members of the First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach. Together they have two adult children, Alex and Sydney, who both live and work in North Myrtle Beach.
The filing period for office opens later this month. The special election will be held in February. Wober said she will announce plans for an official campaign kickoff after the first of the year.
